A Japanese cultivar of the largest flowers in Texensis Group. Flowers are deep pink, tulip-shaped. Bloom profusely throughout summer.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE: Flowers small, 4–7 cm across, deep pink, consisting of 4 sepals strongly curled at the tips. They are half-open bell-shaped. Stamens have yellow anthers  on creamy white filaments. Free flowering from mid-June till mid-September, sometimes even into October.

HOW IT GROWS: A perennial climber; the shoots die back every year from the base up. Supports itself with leaf tendrils. Reaches 3–4 m height.

WHERE TO PLANT: Thrives in sunny sites and in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Frost hardy (zone 5–9).

HOW TO PLANT AND MAINTAIN: Before planting immerse the plant container in water for 10-30 min. Place the plant in a 60 x 60 x 60 cm hole with a 10-cm layer of pebbles and gravel at the bottom. Cover the roots with a bucket of well-rotten manure or compost and fill up with fertile soil. Place the plant base 5–10 cm deeper than it was before. Plant at least 30 cm from walls or other plants. The base should be in a shade. Cover the ground around the new plants with bark mulch and for winter protection pile it up to 10 cm. Fertilize with Osmocote 5-6 M, water generously in vegetation season.  Flowers appear on new shoots, so at the end of February or the beginning of March dead wood should be removed just above the ground.

HOW TO APPLY: Particularly suitable for growing over arbours, obelisks and other garden supports. It looks charming when interlaced with shrubs or other vines.

ORIGIN: Found as a sport of ‘Princes Diana’ cultivar by Tuneo Tshigura, Japan, ca. 2006.

SIMILAR CULTIVARS: ‘Princess Diana’, ‘Sir Trevor Lawrence’, ‘Gravetye Beauty’, ‘Duchess of Albany’, ‘Etoile Rose’.
