A vigorous, twining climber, reaching 10m (1-2m of annual growth) on a suitable support. Leaves lanceolate, glossy, dark green, turning yellow in autumn. Flowers small, brownish-purple, borne in cymes from June to August. Performs well in moderate soils. Suitable for growing on pergolas, gates, fences or old tree trunks. Particularly useful in full sun. Pruning: when needed. In March-April prune back all stems that are dead, superfluously tangled or suppressing the growth of other plants.
