Cocculus orbiculatus
A twining climber, closely related to Menispermum. Its lustrous dark green, heart-shaped or oval leaves that turn yellow in autumn are its main attraction. Slender stems are green when young and turn brown with age. Creamy flowers are small and inconspicuous, and appear in July-August. Fruits are small, rounded, and black with a blue bloom. It has low soil requirements, but prefers warm sunny positions. Prune lightly, only when needed. It covers the support with a dense mass of greenery, and is suitable for growing over arbors, fences, pergolas, trellises and other supports. It may also be encouraged to climb into a tree or a tall hedge.
