A vigorous, twining climber, reaching 10 m (1-2 m of annual growth) on a suitable support. Dark green lanceolate, glossy leaves. Flowers small, brownish-purple, borne in cymes from June to August. Performs well in moderate soils. Suitable for growing on pergolas, gates, fences or training up old tree trunks. Particularly useful in full sun.
Prune when needed. In March-April prune back all stems that are dead, superfluously tangled or suppressing the growth of other plants.
