A twining climber of the Menispermaceae family, closely related to Moonseed (Menispermum). Its lustrous dark green heart-shaped or oval leaves are its main attraction. The leaves turn yellow in autumn. Slender stems are green when young and turn brown with age. Creamy flowers are small and inconspicuous, and appear in July-August. Fruits are small, rounded, black with blue bloom. It doesn’t need any special care and likewise Moonseed, it should only be pruned if it gets too big.
Requirements.
It has low soil requirements, but prefers warm sunny positions.
Application.
Recommended for growing over arbours, fences, pergolas, trellises and other supports which it will cover with a dense mass of greenery. It may also be encouraged to climb up a tree or a tall hedge.
