A beautiful perennial clematis, semi-herbaceous in habit, raised in 1835 – one of the oldest in cultivation. Flowers deep bluish purple, bell-shaped, slightly nodding, with yellow stamens. Free flowering from June to September. Due to its non-clinging habit it is best given some support.
Excellent for growing between deciduous and coniferous shrubs or for spreading over small areas.

Raised by J. A. Henderson, United Kingdom 1835.
