A hardy, vigorously growing cultivar. Large, red-purple becoming violet-purple, semi-nodding flowers with a redder central bar and cream stamens. Blossoms profusely from June to September, but flowers are formed at the height of 1,5-3m. Therefore it’s particularly useful for planting over tall supports, fences, as a backdrop for other plants, especially against a bright background.Raised by T. Cripps, United Kingdom. Introduced in 1864.
