A charming, semi-herbaceous climber. Bell-shaped, nodding, bright cherry-purple flowers with a silvery-pink margin, borne during July-August. A lovely clematis for growing through shrubs and conifers. Best grown in a sunny, sheltered position. It’s a perennial, its previous year’s shoots tend to die down completely, and therefore the plant should be hard-pruned close to the ground in March.

Raised by Lemoine et fils, France.
Introduced in 1903.
