A species native to China, Japan, Korea and Siberia. Flowers consisting of four sepals, the color ranging from pale to deep violet-blue with a central yellowy-white eye. Main flowering in early spring on old wood, the blooms continue to appear throughout the summer. Decorative seedheads in summer and autumns. No pruning required. Tolerates poor soil provided it's well drained. A hardy healthy and quite undemanding plant. It can grow in partial shade.
Suitable for clambering over rocks and old tree trunks. Particularly useful for growing through small trees and coniferous or deciduous shrubs.
