A beautiful, early-flowering variety of large-flowered clematis with large, double and semi-double, light blue flowers.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE: Large (15-17 cm in diameter), double or semi-double flowers. Inner sepals are lighter, outer ones slightly darker, sepal tips slightly pinkish or greenish. Stamens are light yellow. Blooms profusely from mid-May to late June, repeating in October. Leaves are dark green, pointed, single, and tripartite.
HOW IT GROWS: A climber; climbs using leaf petioles. Grows moderately strongly, reaching 1.5–2.0 m in height.
WHERE TO PLANT: Prefers sunny locations. Grows well in fertile, well-drained soils, but will tolerate most average soils if improved. Soil pH should be neutral to slightly acidic. Winterhardy (zones 4–9).
HOW TO PLANT AND MAINTAIN: Plant in a hole (60 × 60 × 60 cm) filled with fertile soil and a 10 cm drainage layer at the bottom. Set 5–10 cm deeper than it grew in the container (planting tutorial). Requires light pruning. In late February to early March, remove dead stems and trim living ones: in the first year, cut to 30 cm above ground just above strong buds; second year – to 70 cm; in the following years – to 150 cm (pruning tutorial). In mid-April, apply a slow-release fertilizer (e.g., Osmocote 5–6M). Water during the growing season.
HOW TO APPLY: Recommended for home gardens, to be planted on free-standing or wall-mounted supports.
