A rarely encountered evergreen climber with deep green lanceolate leaves and chocolate-purple flowers borne in clusters during June and July. Berries small, purplish-black with a light waxy bloom. Best planted in sheltered or half-shaded positions. It may freeze during severe winters. Well suited for scrambling over arbors, pergolas and other supports.
